About Bamby Salcedo

Bamby Salcedo (she/her) is an internationally recognized transgender Latina activist, social justice advocate, and movement builder whose work has transformed the landscape of trans rights and visibility across the world. As the President and CEO of The TransLatin@ Coalition, Bamby leads one of the largest and most influential trans-led organizations in the United States—dedicated to advocating for the rights, dignity, and well-being of transgender, gender expansive, and intersex Latin@ people.

Born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Bamby’s journey from personal struggle to global leadership stands as a testament to resilience and transformation. She earned her Master’s Degree in Mexican and Latin@ Studies from California State University, Los Angeles, and went on to found the Center for Violence Prevention & Transgender Wellness, a groundbreaking, multiservice space that provides lifesaving support for trans people in Los Angeles.

Bamby’s activism spans issues of immigration, HIV awareness, incarceration, racial justice, at-risk youth, and economic empowerment. Her relentless commitment has led her to engage with the White House on multiple occasions, share the stage with President Joe Biden, and testify before Congress in support of the Equal Rights Amendment. She has also served as a facilitator with the Pan American Health Organization, helping to shape the blueprint for trans-inclusive healthcare across Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2022, Bamby was appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to the Commission on the State of Hate.

A powerful and inspiring public speaker, Bamby has graced stages at national and international conferences including the National Sexual Assault Conference, the National HIV Prevention Conference, and the United States Conference on AIDS. Her work has been featured in major outlets such as People en Español, Cosmopolitan, Latina Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Magazine, and OUT 100. She is also the subject of two acclaimed documentary films — TransVisible: Bamby Salcedo’s Story and LA QueenCiañera.

At her core, Bamby speaks from a place of authenticity and healing. Her voice calls attention to systemic injustice while empowering others to embrace their truth and power. Through her leadership, storytelling, and unyielding love for her community, Bamby continues to redefine what it means to live boldly, lead unapologetically, and build movements rooted in justice and liberation.

.

Through her work and lived experience, Bamby uplifts the voices of those most marginalized — trans immigrants, women of color, and survivors of systemic violence. Her mission is rooted in resilience, compassion, and justice, striving to build a world where every person can live authentically and freely.

“I am a Trans Latina immigrant woman who has turned my pain into purpose — transforming my survival into a legacy of service.”
